About
BOMBERWARRIORS OF WOR is a remake and enhanced version of the Commodore 64 version of Wizard of Wor, supporting three game modes and up to eight players via Wiimotes or keyboard. It's built for Linux with Qt5 and SDL, currently at version 0.9 beta, and the author describes it as buggy but successful as a party game.
How it differs from the original
Beyond the original's co-op 'Original' mode, it adds a Deathmatch mode (where walls disappear over time to speed up fights) and a Bomberman-style mode that swaps laser guns for bombs, plus support for up to 8 simultaneous players via paired Wiimotes, far beyond the source game's player count.
Getting started
Pair Wiimotes by pressing the '1' and '2' buttons together on the player-selection screen (repeat per player, then press '+' to continue), or press 'K' to add a keyboard player controlled with the arrow keys and space to fire. Building requires the Qt5 and SDL2 dependencies, and the game currently only compiles on Linux because of its Wiimote-handling library.
Known limitations
- stability: Still contains a few bugs; considered version 0.9 beta.
- platform: Performance is not as good as it should be, likely due to sprites not being pre-scaled to game resolution.
- gameplay: Original game mode still has some bugs; Deathmatch should work pretty well.
- input: More controller options needed (SDL joystick).
Additional notes
- Legal
- The author states he considers the original Wizard of Wor abandonware and would remove the project if the rights holder objected.
