Descent 3: 2 Open Source Clones Compared

The official Descent 3 engine release is the general GPL-3.0 baseline: cross-platform (Windows, Linux, macOS, Android) but only sporadically updated. Piccu Engine is a Windows-only community fork built from that same 1.5 source that is still actively developed and adds a specific list of fixes over an earlier InjectD3 effort — centered/scaled and true fullscreen window modes, adjustable FOV with automatic widescreen expansion, restored OpenGL specular highlights and mipmap control, crackle-free OpenAL audio with environment reverb, a 60 FPS UI cap, and a cockpit view that, unlike InjectD3, works correctly in widescreen.
