About

Death Rally is a 1996 game that this project sets out to port natively to Linux and BSD-based systems. dRally is a native Linux/BSD port of Death Rally (1996), built with a C compiler, GNU Make, and SDL2. It requires the original game's assets to run, does not yet support multiplayer, and is currently listed as unplayable.

How it differs from the original

Unlike the original, multiplayer is not yet available in this port; it also needs the original Windows release's game assets extracted and arranged into a specific directory structure before it will run at all.

Getting started

You need a legitimately-owned copy of the original Death Rally Windows release, extract its files with a standard archive tool, and arrange the required files (in uppercase names) into the expected folder layout alongside the compiled binary before launching.

Known limitations

  • gameplay: Multiplayer is not currently implemented.
Requires original assets. Requires the original Death Rally game assets (DR.IDF and other BPA/HAF files).
