About

Project FreeSims is an open-source engine recreation of The Sims 1 that still requires the original game's files to run; it aims to give players an expanded engine with better gameplay and new features. It's built with MonoGame/OpenTK on Windows and OpenGL/SDL2 on Linux, using Visual Studio 2017+ or Mono to build.

How it differs from the original

It requires an existing installation of The Sims 1 (Complete Collection or Legacy Collection) since it includes no original assets itself, and it is explicitly not intended as an online game, though players can still visit other players' houses and community lots.

Getting started

Install the original Sims 1 (Complete or Legacy Collection) to its default path, then build the project via SimsVille.sln using Visual Studio 2017 or later on Windows, or Mono on Linux, and run SimsVille.

Requires original assets. Requires the original Sims 1 game files (Complete Collection or Legacy Collection); must be installed in the default path.
