About
The Sims is a 2000 social simulation game developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright, letting players create and control virtual people, build and furnish homes, and manage their needs, relationships, careers, and finances with no fixed win condition. Simitone is an alternative C# Windows frontend for The Sims, built on the FreeSO project, that improves playability on modern systems: 3D visuals generated from the original 2D sprites (or community-made models), a custom interface for modern resolutions, improved graphics performance, and custom directional lighting. It requires a legitimate copy of The Sims: Complete Collection and only supports Windows.
How it differs from the original
The Sims itself is 2D-sprite-based, while Simitone renders the game in 3D using models generated from those sprites or from community-made meshes, and adds a modernized interface; some content, such as the full Fame career track and saving while on vacation, isn't yet supported, and many in-game objects have bugs that can make certain lot types unplayable.
Known limitations
- gameplay: Does not support the entire Fame career track.
- gameplay: Saving on vacation is not supported.
- stability: Many objects have bugs that can make certain lot types unplayable.
Additional notes
- Trivia
- The name is a play on "semitone," referencing the project's use of C# (a musical note).
