Frogger (Game Boy)

About

This is the official Game Boy source code for Frogger, developed by Morning Star Media (programmer David Lubar) starting May 1, 1998. The included prototype build (dated March 31, 1999) sits between the original 1998 build and the final US retail release, predating the later Game Boy Color enhancements, and was reorganized and documented for preservation by Highway Frogs.

Getting started

Building requires a DOS environment such as DOSBox, since the original toolchain — the dmg.exe assembler and glod2bin.exe linker — consists of 16-bit DOS executables; running MAKE.BAT from the SOURCE directory produces the ROM file, named FROG.BIN.

Additional notes

Build variants
The included prototype is a 128K, non-Game Boy Color build; the repo's build list documents several later 512K/1M GB/GBC-compatible USA and European retail releases that differ from it.
Toolchain trivia
The original DOS assembler used to build the ROM, dmg.exe, is undocumented and of unknown authorship, dated December 1989.
