About
Team Fortress 2 is Valve Software's team-based multiplayer shooter, the 3D game that Gang Garrison 2 explicitly demakes into 2D, 8-bit side-scrolling form. Gang Garrison 2 is an open-source 2D, 8-bit side-scrolling demake of Team Fortress 2, created by the FAUCET Team (mrfredman, MedO, and Synnah). It's a full multiplayer game with ten playable classes, each with TF2-inspired special abilities, six gameplay modes (Capture the Flag, Control Point, Arena, Generator, King of the Hill, and Dual King of the Hill), and 20 official maps, released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.
How it differs from the original
As a demake, it recreates Team Fortress 2's classes and objective-based modes in 2D pixel-art form rather than 3D, and adds two modes not found in the original — Generator and Dual King of the Hill — alongside original assets and a networking/HTTP stack built specifically for the project (the Faucet Networking and Faucet HTTP extensions).
Getting started
Players connect to a server through the in-game lobby, which lists current maps, player counts, and IPs, or by entering a server's IP and port directly; they then choose a team and one of ten classes (M opens the class menu, N switches teams) before playing objective-based modes such as Capture the Flag or Control Point.
History
The project has been maintained since at least 2008, with a readme changelog documenting updates from contributors spanning 2009 through 2020, alongside ongoing map and code contributions credited to a large community of artists, programmers, and map designers.

Additional notes
- Easter egg
- The readme jokingly insists there is "totally no secret character" in the game, echoing the original Team Fortress 2 community's long-running joke about a hidden class.
- Licensing
- The game bundles several separately licensed components: the Faucet Networking and Faucet HTTP extensions (ISC license), the Faucet Forwarding extension wrapping miniupnp (BSD license), and the 7-Zip command-line tool (LGPL).
