About

RuneScape is a fantasy MMORPG created by Andrew Gower (with his brother Paul) and published by Jagex, first released on 4 January 2001 as a Java browser game; the original Java client was later replaced by a standalone C++ client in 2016. Lost City is a from-scratch RuneScape server, presented as an umbrella repository linking the project's other components (since GitHub's zip downloads don't include git submodules); its homepage domain suggests it targets an earlier, 2004-era version of the game rather than the modern one. It's under active development, runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and in the browser, and is set up locally via an included start script after installing Git and Node.js 24+. It's MIT licensed.

Getting started

After installing the Git CLI and Node.js 24+, run the included start script and follow its prompts; once it reports the world has started, the game is played locally in a browser.
