About

Mayhem was originally released as Public Domain/Shareware software on the Amiga. Mayhem 2 is a 2-4 player multiplayer flight shooter built on top of devpack's 2002 PC port of the original Amiga Mayhem. It was picked up from an old Google Code repository by Martin O'Hanlon, who added new levels and features with Lee Taylor, and was later migrated to the Allegro 5 library by Jonas Karlsson. It also has a separate Raspberry Pi port.

How it differs from the original

Only levels 1-3 are the original game's levels; every other level in Mayhem 2 is new. The project also adds new options not in the original, such as DCA anti-spaceship guns and a toggle to disable wall collision for new players.

Getting started

The goal is to destroy opposing ships before they destroy you: ships have limited fuel that depletes when boosting (land on a flat surface to refuel) and shields that block bullets but drain quickly and disable boosting while active. Powerups sometimes drop when a player is destroyed. Controls come from joysticks by default (or keyboard if fewer than 4 are connected) — download the zip from the GitHub repo and run Mayhem2.exe, allowing it past a Windows "unrecognized app" warning if prompted.

Additional notes

Port
A separate Raspberry Pi port of Mayhem 2 exists (linked from the README) alongside the Windows version.
