About

Ultima VI: The False Prophet is a 1990 Origin Systems role-playing game; Martian Dreams (1991) and The Savage Empire (1990) are Worlds of Ultima spin-offs built on the same engine. Nuvie is an open-source engine for Origin's Ultima 6, Martian Dreams and The Savage Empire that uses the original games' data files. Ultima 6 is completable, and support for the other two games was still being added. Development has since moved into ScummVM as one of its engines.

How it differs from the original

It adds graphics scalers such as 2xSaI, Scale2x and SuperEagle, drag-and-drop inventory, and support for the English speech and sound effects of the FM-Towns version of Ultima VI.

Getting started

You need the original game data files. Settings live in a config file that is created automatically on Windows and macOS; Linux users create it by hand from the included sample. New development and bug reports go through ScummVM.

History

The project has moved to ScummVM, which brings more supported platforms, MT-32 audio and extensive shader support.

Known limitations

  • features: Martian Dreams and Savage Empire support is still in development; Ultima 6 is completable.
Requires original assets. Requires original data files from Ultima 6, Martian Dreams, or The Savage Empire.
