About

Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen and Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen (1993) are New World Computing role-playing games that together form World of Xeen. OpenXeen is a Java rewrite of the Might and Magic IV & V (World of Xeen) game engine by Dr Warren Creemers. It is not ready for release: so far it can parse the game's CC files, open some graphics and audio, read some map data and show a simple rendering of some components, and development has halted.

How it differs from the original

The author plans changes to mechanics, including fewer save/restore loops, better store inventories, more money late in the game, monster respawning, one open map instead of separate regions, and a bigger 3D view window.

Getting started

It is not released yet. The full game requires a purchased copy of World of Xeen; the project aims to bundle the shareware version. The first run takes a while because proxy files are generated.

History

The author chose Java only because he wanted a project to refresh his Java skills and learn Java 8.

Requires original assets. Requires purchase of Might and Magic IV & V - World of Xeen; can bundle shareware version but full version recommended.
