About
The Sims Online was a 2002 subscription-based MMO by Maxis and Electronic Arts, a multiplayer version of The Sims in which players interacted on user-made virtual lots, held jobs, and built in-game wealth — a project of Sims creator Will Wright aimed at emergent social gameplay. Project Dollhouse is a from-the-ground-up reconstruction of The Sims Online in C#, requiring players to separately install the original TSO client from the Internet Archive and run a Dockerized server that listens on port 3077.
How it differs from the original
It runs the original client against a self-hosted Docker server rather than EA's official, long-since-shut-down Sims Online servers.
Getting started
Install The Sims Online client from the Internet Archive, install Docker, then run the provided Docker command to start a local server listening on port 3077 and connect to it.
