About

Gothic is a 2001 action role-playing game developed by Piranha Bytes for Windows, the first game in the Gothic franchise; a remaster, Gothic Classic, followed in 2023 and on additional platforms in 2026. REGoth is an open-source reimplementation of the zEngine used by Gothic and Gothic II, aiming to let the original games run on modern systems (Windows and Linux). The project is still under active development, with planned features tracked on its GitHub Projects board, and it does not include original game data.

Getting started

Nightly Windows builds can be downloaded as build artifacts from the project's Azure DevOps pipeline; the official documentation covers building from source and running REGoth on Linux or Windows. It requires the original Gothic or Gothic II game data to run.

Known limitations

  • development: Project is still in development; not all features have been fully implemented.
Requires original assets. Requires original game data from Gothic or Gothic II.
