About

Diablo II is a 2000 action role-playing game developed by Blizzard North and published by Blizzard Entertainment, designed by David Brevik and Erich Schaefer with dark fantasy and horror themes. Riiablo is an in-progress, from-scratch rebuild of Diablo II in Java using LibGDX, OpenGL, Flatbuffers, and Netty, targeting PC and Android. It requires a full copy of the original Diablo II assets to run and reads existing 1.13c+ save files, though the game itself is not yet playable beyond loading saves and walking around.

How it differs from the original

Unlike the original, Riiablo supports arbitrary widescreen aspect ratios rather than the fixed layout the original assets were designed for, and aims for cross-platform multiplayer between PC and mobile, though it is explicitly not compatible with the original game's own client or online service.

Getting started

You need an existing Diablo II installation; on Windows the game is usually auto-detected, while on Linux/macOS you must manually copy the native Win32 MPQ data files from a Windows install or Wine. Build and run it from source with Gradle (gradlew desktop:run); the game is not yet playable beyond loading saves and exploring.

Known limitations

  • gameplay: Game is not yet fully playable; core functionality is present but the game is still in development.
Requires original assets. 100% original Diablo II assets are required; the game uses assets from an existing copy of Diablo II.
