About

System Shock is a 1994 first-person action-adventure game by LookingGlass Technologies, directed by Doug Church and produced by Warren Spector, in which a nameless hacker aboard a space station fights the malevolent AI SHODAN. Shockolate is a cross-platform SDL2 source port of System Shock, based on the PowerPC source code Night Dive Studios released; it runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS, aiming for an experience like Chocolate Doom's — close to the original but portable, with an added OpenGL renderer and mod support. Some original features are still missing since they weren't included in the released source, and floppy-disk-version assets currently can't be loaded.

How it differs from the original

It replaces the original's controls with WASD movement and an F-key mouselook toggle (differing even from the official Enhanced Edition's E-key mouselook), and adds an OpenGL renderer and mod/fan-mission loading not present in the 1994 release.

Getting started

You need your own original System Shock CD-ROM or Enhanced Edition assets placed in a res/data folder next to the executable; prebuilt packages exist for Linux, Mac, and Windows, or it can be built from source with CMake. Fan missions can be loaded by pointing the executable at a mod folder or specific data files.

Requires original assets. Original System Shock CD-ROM or System Shock: Enhanced Edition assets are required in a res/data folder.
