About
Space Invaders is a 1978 fixed shooter game developed by Taito, one of the first video games with endless gameplay, in which the player fires a horizontally moving laser cannon at descending waves of aliens. This is a Haskell implementation of Space Invaders built with the Yampa functional reactive programming (FRP) library, created for educational purposes to demonstrate FRP techniques through separate subsystems for physics/collisions, input, rendering, and logic. It's distributed as a package on Hackage and can be installed through Haskell's Cabal package manager.
Getting started
It can be installed through Haskell's Cabal package manager and run from the command line; the project also includes extensive Haddock-generated documentation for those who want to explore the implementation.
History
The game originated as a demonstration for academic papers and talks on Functional Reactive Programming, including 'The Yampa Arcade' at the Haskell Symposium 2003, and has been used in FRP teaching materials since at least 2010.
