About

Super Star Trek is a 1978 text-based strategy game written by Bob Leedom and David Ahl and published in the book BASIC COMPUTER GAMES, in which players hunt down a Klingon invasion fleet. This is a remake of the 1978 BASIC strategy game Super Star Trek that reimagines its turn-based Klingon-hunting gameplay with the bridge-command interface and visual style of the 1992 Interplay adventure game Star Trek: 25th Anniversary -- players issue orders to bridge crew like Sulu, Chekov, Spock, Scott, and Uhura rather than typing text commands. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and in the browser, with subtitles in six languages.

How it differs from the original

Beyond keeping the original's underlying sector-scanning, shield, and weapons mechanics, the remake replaces its text interface with a graphical bridge UI borrowed from a different game, and adds voice clips from the original TV series and multi-language subtitles not part of the 1978 original.

Getting started

Players can choose mouse-and-keyboard, keyboard-only, or mouse-only controls, and press F1 in-game to see the full command list; Steam Deck players need to separately download the graphics-assets package. Difficulty can be adjusted at any time from the Esc menu.

History

The author previously added graphics and sound to Super Star Trek in an earlier PICO-8 port, before combining it with the Star Trek: 25th Anniversary interface for this version.

Trivia
The game is deliberately based on the original 1978 version of Super Star Trek, rather than the many later variants of it that exist.
