About
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is a 2002 action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios, set on the island of Vvardenfell, where the player investigates the demigod Dagoth Ur's plot to break Morrowind free of Imperial rule. TES3MP adds multiplayer functionality to OpenMW, the open-source engine that runs Morrowind, providing extensive synchronization of players, NPCs, world state, and quests, plus state saving and loading, all customizable through serverside Lua scripts. As of version 0.8.1 it is fully playable, though it still requires the original Morrowind game files to run.
How it differs from the original
Beyond adding online multiplayer to Morrowind, TES3MP has a separate VR branch that combines it with a fork of OpenMW VR.
Getting started
Running TES3MP requires the original Morrowind game data plus a compatible OpenMW build; a quickstart guide is linked from the project's GitHub wiki, and a Discord server and subreddit are available for setup help.
History
TES3MP builds on OpenMW and has been developed as a separate multiplayer fork since 2016 by David Cernat and Stanislav Zhukov.
Known limitations
- gameplay: AI and clientside script variable synchronization remain incomplete; script variables need manual whitelisting to avoid packet spam.
