About

Tsumu Light is a hamster-themed falling/stacking puzzle game for the PlayStation (Japan-only release, catalog number SLPS-02253) that never received an official release outside Japan. TsumuLightRecomp statically recompiles the Japan-only PS1 puzzle game Tsumu Light into a native Windows/Linux/macOS executable using the PSXRecomp framework, running the game's own decompiled logic against a simulation of real PS1 hardware plus the actual recompiled PS1 BIOS. It's an early, in-development preview (v0.0.1) described as playable — the game boots and plays through its puzzle stages in English with working memory-card save/load — built as one of several proof-of-concept games for the underlying PSXRecomp framework.

How it differs from the original

The headline addition beyond the original is a built-in English localization layer, since Tsumu Light was never released outside Japan — it translates the HUD, menus, stage-select names, high-score labels, and memory-card dialogs at runtime without modifying the original game data, and players can switch back to the original untranslated Japanese from the launcher. The recompiled build also adds a graphical launcher, an instant boot-skip that bypasses the console's real BIOS intro by default, and keyboard support alongside the original's controller input.

Getting started

Download the release package and run the included executable to open a launcher, where you select your own legally obtained PS1 BIOS file (the standard NTSC-U BIOS works even for this Japanese disc, since the default boot mode skips the region check) and your own Tsumu Light disc image, then pick English or Japanese in the localization settings before launching. The game does not ship the original disc image or BIOS — both must be supplied by the player.

History

This recompilation exists as one of several proof-of-concept games built to develop and test the PSXRecomp framework itself, which the author describes as the actual goal, with the individual game ports as a byproduct.

Requires original assets. Requires legally obtained Tsumu Light (Japan, SLPS-02253) disc image and NTSC-U SCPH1001.BIN BIOS ROM.

Part of a broader PS1-recompilation community that also produced recompilations of other PS1 games, such as Mega Man X6 and Tomba!, using the same framework.
