Wind Waker Randomizer
About
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a 2002 action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the GameCube, released in Japan in December 2002 and in North America and Europe in 2003. Wind Waker Randomizer is an open-source randomizer tool for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker that shuffles the location of every item so each playthrough is unique, while guaranteeing the game remains completable without glitches or tricks. It only supports the North American GameCube version of the game, not the European or Japanese releases or Wind Waker HD.
How it differs from the original
Beyond randomizing items, it also makes the game open-world from the start, removes most cutscenes, and increases sailing and text speed compared to the original; players can further limit which location types (dungeons, secret caves, sidequests, mail, and more) are allowed to hold progress-critical items.
Getting started
Download the randomizer from the official website or GitHub releases and run it against a North American GameCube copy of Wind Waker to generate a randomized seed; a Discord server and an FAQ page are available if you get stuck on a seed.
Known limitations
- compatibility: Only supports the North American GameCube version of Wind Waker; European, Japanese versions and Wind Waker HD are not compatible.
Additional notes
- Known issue
- Some antivirus software incorrectly flags the randomizer as malware; users may need to add an exclusion for it.
