Guitar Hero is a rhythm game series that began in 2005, in which players use a guitar-shaped controller to match scrolling notes to colored fret buttons in time with the music; later entries added drums and vocals for four-player band play. YARG (Yet Another Rhythm Game) is a free, open-source rhythm game supporting five-fret guitar, drums (plastic or e-kit), vocals, and pro-guitar controllers, still under active development. It uses no ripped or pirated assets or music, relying entirely on original and licensed content, and is distributed through a dedicated YARC Launcher.
Getting started
The recommended way to install is the YARC Launcher, which handles downloading and updating the game; a separate 'YARG Setlist' download adds songs. Linux users additionally need to install hidapi and libudev packages and add a udev rules file so the game can access HID-based instrument controllers without elevated permissions.
