About
Arx Libertatis is a cross-platform, from-scratch engine reimplementation of Arx Fatalis (a first-person RPG), built on the publicly released Arx Fatalis source code and licensed under GPLv3+. It runs on Linux and Windows using OpenGL and SDL, includes an optional Qt-based crash reporter, and is playable, though the project's development is marked as halted.
How it differs from the original
Unlike the original commercial release, this engine ships without any game data — players must separately obtain Arx Fatalis's data files (from a CD, demo, GOG, or Steam install) and the project includes a script to convert and install them for use.
Getting started
You need to separately obtain the original Arx Fatalis game data (from a CD, demo, GOG, or Steam install), then either run the project's data-install helper or point the game at your existing installation before launching it. Detailed compiling instructions for Linux and Windows, including pre-built dependency packages, are documented on the project's wiki.
