Arx Fatalis: 2 Open Source Clones Compared
Arx Fatalis is Arkane's own GPL-licensed release of the game's original engine source, built with Visual Studio 2008 for Windows only. Arx Libertatis rebuilds that same source into a cross-platform engine using SDL and OpenGL, adding Linux support, and separately provides a script to convert and install the required game data rather than expecting an existing installation to already be in place. Both still depend on the original commercial Arx Fatalis files to supply their assets.
