Bong

HaltedPlayableBeOS

Based on Pong

About

Bong is a freeware Pong clone for BeOS (version 1.4, for BeOS R4) by Gertjan van Ratingen, originally written as a joystick sample application before evolving into a full game. It supports two BeBox joystick ports (or a splitter) as well as keyboard controls, and matches are played to 15 points.

How it differs from the original

The paddle physics include topspin: the game tracks how fast the bat is moving and adjusts the ball's rebound angle accordingly, a mechanic not present in the original arcade Pong.

Getting started

Start the game by double-clicking its icon; open the main menu by clicking inside the court. Keyboard players use left Shift and Ctrl for the left paddle, or right Shift and Option (right Ctrl) for the right paddle. Settings are saved automatically between sessions.

Additional notes

Detail
The README includes wiring instructions for building a custom slider-potentiometer joystick controller, and notes that missing audio sample files fall back to a simple beep.
