Cloned Games

Dungeon Keeper: 4 Open Source Clones Compared

KeeperFX requires the player's own copy of the original Dungeon Keeper game files (from a CD, EA, GOG, or Steam) and builds on them with higher screen resolutions, decoupled graphics/game-logic frame rates, improved AI and pathfinding, and a modernized multiplayer protocol. OpenDungeons and OpenDungeonsPlus instead ship their own data files and need no original assets, sharing gameplay elements with Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius rather than remaking it directly. As of the OpenDungeons project's own October 2025 status note, it has seen little activity for years and its developers have moved on, pointing to OpenDungeonsPlus — a fork by a former contributor — as the actively developed continuation.
