About

Diablo is Blizzard Entertainment's 1996 action role-playing game; Hellfire is its official expansion. DevilutionX is a modernized port of Diablo and its Hellfire expansion, built on the earlier Devilution source-code reconstruction. It adds engine improvements, bug fixes, and optional quality-of-life features (such as toggleable health/XP bars and widescreen support), and targets a very wide range of platforms including Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, several consoles (3DS, PS4, Switch, PS Vita, Xbox/Xbox One), and Amiga.

How it differs from the original

Unlike the original 1996 release, DevilutionX adds optional UI elements like health and XP bars (off by default) and widescreen display support (which can be disabled to match the original).

Getting started

You'll need the original game's DIABDAT.MPQ file (from a CD, GOG, or Battle.net installation, or the free shareware spawn.mpq for the shareware portion) placed in the DevilutionX folder; to run the Hellfire expansion, the hellfire.mpq, hfmonk.mpq, hfmusic.mpq, and hfvoice.mpq files are also needed. Prebuilt releases are available, or it can be built from source.

History

DevilutionX builds on the earlier Devilution project, which reconstructed Diablo's original 1996 source code.

Requires original assets. Requires DIABDAT.MPQ from original Diablo CD, GoG, or Battle.net; alternatively spawn.mpq from shareware version works.
