About
freeablo is an archived, cross-platform reimplementation of the Diablo 1 game engine — it needs the original game's data files to run. At the point development stopped, it supported walking around town, animated players and NPCs, dungeon exploration, melee combat with limited ranged and magic attacks, monster loot drops, and buying/selling items; the author describes it as still just a base for a full game.
Getting started
Requires the original Diablo game files, patched specifically to version 1.09, copied into the freeablo folder alongside the prebuilt or self-compiled executable. Controls mirror the original: mouse to walk and interact, PgUp/PgDn to change dungeon levels, scroll wheel to zoom.
Known limitations
- development: Project is archived; development has ceased.
