About

Thimbleweed Park is a commercial adventure game. engge2 is an open source reimplementation of the engine used by the commercial adventure game Thimbleweed Park, rewritten from scratch in the Nim programming language after the developer grew frustrated maintaining an earlier C++ version (engge). It's still in active development with known issues, and depends on SDL2, Dear ImGui, and a bundled, modified build of the Squirrel scripting language, among other libraries.

How it differs from the original

Like its C++ predecessor, it includes none of Thimbleweed Park's original content — it requires the player's own copy of the commercial game's data archives to run, though existing savegames and achievement data from a real Thimbleweed Park install can be copied over. It adds support for the official 'Ransome Unbeeped' DLC and an Italian voice-over pack as additional data archives, and lets players build their own custom data archives to override the original assets, similar to Doom WAD modding.

Getting started

After buying Thimbleweed Park, copy its two core data archive files into the project folder and run the built program to play; savegames and achievement data from a real Thimbleweed Park install can be copied over too. The official 'Ransome Unbeeped' DLC and an Italian voice-over pack can each be added as an extra data archive copied into the same folder. If the game reports an invalid data file, creating a small preferences file with one of a few alternate key values usually fixes it.

History

engge2 began after the developer grew frustrated with C++ while finishing the original engge project, and restarted the Thimbleweed Park engine reimplementation from scratch in Nim.

Requires original assets. Requires Thimbleweed Park game files: ThimbleweedPark.ggpack1 and ThimbleweedPark.ggpack2; also supports optional Ransome unbeeped DLC (ggpack3) and localization packs.
