About

GBADoom is a port of prBoom to the Game Boy Advance, supporting Doom Shareware, Retail, Ultimate Doom, and Doom II IWADs. The renderer is largely intact (aside from removed Z-depth lighting and added mip-mapping) and monster behavior is preserved, but framerate varies from about 35fps in simple areas down to roughly 10fps in complex ones, and it has no multiplayer or demo compatibility.

How it differs from the original

Compared to the PC prBoom it's based on, GBADoom reverts most engine enhancements (dehacked, limit-removing features) back to vanilla behavior for memory and performance reasons, and drops multiplayer and demo-recording support entirely.

Getting started

Building requires DevKitArm and the GBAWadUtil tool to bake a chosen IWAD into the source before compiling; the resulting .gba file can then be run from a flash cart or in an emulator. The game also includes a set of button-combination cheat codes (god mode, no-clipping, invincibility, and others) enterable in-game.

Known limitations

  • performance: Framerate is variable: simple areas run at ~35fps, complex areas (e.g., E4M2) run at about 10 FPS. Episode 4 runs slowly.
  • features: Demo compatibility is broken.
  • features: No multiplayer support.
Requires original assets. Requires Doom Shareware, Retail, Ultimate, or Doom 2 IWAD files.
