Wolfenstein 3D is a 1992 first-person shooter developed by id Software and published by Apogee Software and FormGen, inspired by the 1981 Muse Software game Castle Wolfenstein. Players control Allied spy William "B.J." Blazkowicz as he escapes the Nazi prison Castle Wolfenstein and undertakes missions against the Nazis using a knife and various guns. Iron Wolf is a from-scratch recreation of Wolfenstein 3D written in Rust, aiming to be pixel- and mod-friendly. The shareware version is bundled with the repository and runs out of the box, and the project also offers a browser-playable web build that can additionally load the full retail game's data files if the player owns them. It's under active development.
Getting started
The bundled shareware episode runs directly from a cloned copy of the repository via a single build command; alternatively, it can be played straight in a browser through the project's web version, which also accepts an upload of the full retail game's data files to unlock the complete game.
