About
Duke Nukem 3D is a 1996 first-person shooter developed by 3D Realms and published by FormGen for MS-DOS, a sequel to the earlier Duke Nukem platform games. JFDuke3D is a source port of Duke Nukem 3D built on the author's own port of Ken Silverman's Build engine, first released in 2003. It runs on Windows, Linux, BSD, and macOS, with optional OpenGL 2.x/3.x/ES2 acceleration, and has been tested on x86, x86_64, PowerPC, and ARM hardware.
How it differs from the original
The port adds optional OpenGL-accelerated rendering and a GTK+-based launcher and file chooser on top of the original software-rendered engine, but still requires game data files from an original release of Duke Nukem 3D to run.
Getting started
Running the game requires supplying data files from an original commercial release of Duke Nukem 3D; the project's website documents which releases are compatible and where to find the files. Multiplayer is supported, but the author cautions against using it over untrusted networks.
