About
Minecraft is a sandbox game by Mojang Studios, first released as an early-access alpha in 2009 and fully released for PCs in November 2011. Minetest Game is the basic sandbox game for the Luanti (formerly Minetest) engine: a peaceful sandbox with no set goals or built-in enemy mobs. It is meant to be extended with mods and is in permanent maintenance-only mode, so it gets no new gameplay features.
How it differs from the original
It has no enemy mobs and no set goals out of the box, leaving extra gameplay to mods.
Getting started
Inside Luanti, open Content > Browse Online Content, search for Minetest Game and click Install. You can also unzip it by hand into Luanti's games folder as "minetest_game"; the Luanti engine itself is a separate download.
History
Since January 2024 it has used a rolling-release model, with changes published to ContentDB daily and no stable releases; older tags are considered legacy.
