About
Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is Blizzard Entertainment's 1994 real-time strategy game for MS-DOS, the first game in the Warcraft franchise. OpenWar is an alternative game engine for Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, written in Go with SDL2. Most of the original game's resources (images, sprites, palettes, tilesets, maps, sound, music and text) can be decoded and loaded, but the game is not yet playable and development has halted.
How it differs from the original
Because it is a different engine, the authors say not everything will behave exactly as in the original Warcraft. It ships no graphics or sounds of its own.
Getting started
It requires a legal copy of the original MS-DOS version of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans; the Mac and demo versions don't work. It can be built via Homebrew/Linuxbrew or with the Go toolchain and SDL2.
Known limitations
- gameplay: Not all functions work 100% the same as original; most resources are decoded but game is not yet playable.
