About
Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is Blizzard Entertainment's 1994 real-time strategy game, the first entry in the Warcraft franchise, originally released for MS-DOS and later Mac OS. War1gus reimplements Warcraft: Orcs & Humans on the open-source Stratagus engine, using graphics and sound extracted from the original game. It runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS, and supports multiplayer with more player factions than the original allowed; development is active.
How it differs from the original
War1gus keeps the original Warcraft's graphics and sound but layers on modern RTS conveniences the original lacked: modern mouse controls, named unit groups, larger group selection sizes, more player factions in multiplayer matches, a built-in map editor, and support for multiple towns.
Getting started
You'll need to extract game data from your own copy of the Warcraft: Orcs & Humans installer using the project's built-in extractor tool; on macOS, that built-in tool currently doesn't work correctly, so a third-party extraction script needs to be used instead (only once). Nightly Windows, Linux, and macOS builds are available from the project's CI.
Known limitations
- compatibility: Built-in extractor tool is currently not working correctly on macOS; a third-party script is available as a workaround.
