About

Plants vs. Zombies is a 2009 tower defense game developed and published by PopCap Games, in which the player defends their home from an advancing zombie horde by placing plants along several lanes that attack or hinder the zombies, using a resource called "sun" to pay for them. PythonPlantsVsZombies is a Python and Pygame recreation of Plants vs. Zombies, implementing a set of plants (including sunflower, peashooter, wall-nut, and several others) and zombies (regular, flag, conehead, bucket-head, and newspaper), with level layouts stored in JSON and support for day, night, moving-card-select, and wall-nut bowling level types; the author describes it as for personal, noncommercial learning use.

How it differs from the original

Implements only a subset of the original's plant and zombie roster rather than the full commercial game's content.

Getting started

Run it directly with Python once Pygame is installed; the starting level can be changed by editing a constant in the game's source, and play is mouse-driven — collecting sun, selecting plant cards, and placing plants.
