About

The Sims 2 is a 2004 social simulation game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, the sequel to The Sims, later expanded with eight expansion packs and ported to multiple consoles and handhelds with more storyline-based versions. SimUnity2 was an attempt to reimplement The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection in the Unity engine; development reached working neighborhood-selection and neighborhood-view screens before being discontinued. The project is no longer active and has been succeeded by OpenTS2.

How it differs from the original

Lot view, the SimAntics scripting system, and skeleton import were never implemented, so gameplay inside a lot never worked; the author describes the codebase itself as messy but usable as a starting point for further reimplementation.

Getting started

Open the project in Unity 2019.2.0f1 for best compatibility, then set the correct paths to an existing The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection installation and user data folder in a configuration file placed in the project's root (or next to the built executable). Only neighborhood selection and the neighborhood view are functional.

History

The project was succeeded by OpenTS2, a later reimplementation effort by the same author.

Known limitations

  • gameplay: Lot view, SimAntics, and skeleton import are not yet implemented.
  • audio: Music code needs significant improvement and does not properly manage song progression.
Requires original assets. Requires paths to The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection directories and user data folders.
