About
Unreal Tournament is a 1999 first-person shooter developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes and published by GT Interactive, the second game in the Unreal series, in which players compete in multiplayer-focused matches; it later saw PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast ports and a 2000 Game of the Year re-release bundling free expansion content. Surreal Engine is a reimplementation of Epic's Unreal Engine 1, currently focused on making the original Unreal (Gold) and Unreal Tournament (UT99) playable, with the project's scope possibly expanding to other UE1-based games later. It targets Windows 10+, macOS 15+, and modern Linux, rendering via Direct3D 11, OpenGL 3.2, or Vulkan (Metal 2+ on macOS), and requires the player's own original copies of the UE1 games to run.
Getting started
Run the SurrealEngine executable, add the folders containing your owned UE1 game installs under the Folders tab, select the game you want in the Games tab, and click Play; if no game folder is set, it will try to find one via the Windows registry. Nightly builds are available from the project's GitHub Releases, and it's also packaged for Arch Linux (AUR) and Nix.
