About
Alien Arena is a free arena first-person shooter with a macabre sci-fi theme, offering 23 levels playable online against other people or offline against built-in bots. It supports Capture The Flag, All Out Assault, and Tactical game modes, plus a range of mutators (instagib, rocket arena, low gravity, and others). It's actively developed for Linux and Windows, with the engine source released under the GPL (version 2 or later), while the game's original content remains copyright of COR Entertainment, LLC.
How it differs from the original
Movement and some conventions echo Quake and Unreal Tournament — strafejumping, dodging, and Quake 3-style colored player names are all present — but Alien Arena uses its own original setting, weapons, and assets rather than reproducing either game directly.
Getting started
On Windows, install via the official click-once installer, which also checks for future updates; on Linux, it's packaged for several distributions or available via Flathub. Bots can be added from the multiplayer menu or via console commands and come in four configurable skill levels, and multiplayer matches are joined by picking a server from an in-game list sorted by ping.
