About

Rise of the Triad: Dark War is a 1995 first-person shooter published by Apogee Software, in which a five-member United Nations special forces unit investigates a deadly cult on San Nicholas Island planning to destroy nearby Los Angeles. Taradino is a source port of Rise of the Triad that reproduces the original 1994 release's functionality on modern Linux, Windows, and macOS, using SDL and SDL_mixer with optional OPL3/AdLib music synthesis via libADLMIDI. It adds portability fixes for 64-bit and big-endian systems, and can be built in both registered and shareware variants.

Getting started

Building requires GCC, CMake, and the SDL2/SDL2_mixer development packages (libADLMIDI optionally, for AdLib music); separate CMake build commands are provided for the registered and shareware versions of the game.

Known limitations

  • gameplay: Demos go out of sync.
  • multiplayer: No netplay support available.
Requires original assets. Port of Rise of the Triad (1994); requires original game data files to run.
