Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters is a 1992 adventure/shoot-'em-up developed by Toys for Bob and published by Accolade for MS-DOS, a direct sequel to Star Control featuring hyperspace travel between star systems and diplomacy with 25 alien races. The Ur-Quan Masters HD MegaMod is a fork of The Ur-Quan Masters + HD-mod (itself built on the open-source release of Star Control II) that remasters the HD graphics further and adds a large set of extra features, options and quality-of-life improvements on top. It runs on Windows, Linux and macOS, and requires a separate content package installed alongside the game code to run.
How it differs from the original
It is not compatible with the original HD-Mod, HD-Remix, Crazy Mod, Balance Mod, Extended, or any other Ur-Quan Masters mods — MegaMod is a fully independent fork with its own asset and add-on packages, and the readme warns against installing it over an existing UQM installation.
Getting started
Installers are provided for Windows and as a Flatpak for Linux; building from source additionally requires downloading the separate UQM-MegaMod-Content package into the project's content folder before compiling.
Known limitations
- compatibility: Not compatible with any other mods or mod packs; MegaMod is completely independent and should not be installed over existing UQM installations.
