About
SingStar is a competitive karaoke video game series developed by London Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, released across multiple PlayStation consoles with songs sold as paid individual or bundle downloads. UltraStar Deluxe is a free, open-source karaoke game where up to six players sing along with microphones to score points based on pitch and rhythm accuracy. It's a fork of the original UltraStar project (by corvus5) that adds a party mode, theme support, and support for more audio and video formats, with improved stability enabling Linux and macOS ports alongside Windows. It's distributed via an installer, a portable build, Flathub, and the Arch Linux AUR.
How it differs from the original
Unlike SingStar, its inspiration, UltraStar Deluxe requires no purchased or licensed song content — players supply their own songs, and the game supports local multiplayer and customizable themes.
Getting started
Players add their own song folders and enable options like joypad support or split-screen local multiplayer by editing the game's settings file; on macOS a default music folder is created automatically on first run, and Flatpak installs use a sandboxed songs folder instead.
