About
SingStar is a competitive karaoke video game series developed by London Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, released across multiple PlayStation consoles with songs sold as paid individual or bundle downloads. UltraStar Play is a free, open-source singing game built with the Unity engine in C#. Players sing along to displayed lyrics and notes, with an optional background video or image, to score points based on accuracy. It ships builds for Linux, macOS, Windows, and Android, and supports both local and online multiplayer.
How it differs from the original
Unlike SingStar, its inspiration, no purchased song content is required — players add their own songs in UltraStar or MIDI format, and the game supports Steam Workshop mods and custom code extensions.
