Cloned Games

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter: 4 Open Source Clones Compared

Serious Engine is the original GPL release of the base engine: it ships its own SE1_10.GRO resource file so it runs without any original game data, though only on Windows and with development now halted. Serious-Sam-Android, Serious Sam Classic: Vulkan, and SeriousSamClassic all instead require copying .gro data files from a purchased copy of the game. Of those three, Serious-Sam-Android is Android-only with its own level editor, while Vulkan and SeriousSamClassic are both cross-platform SDL2 ports (Windows/Linux/macOS/Raspberry Pi) with XPLUS mod support for HD assets — the Vulkan build specifically adds a Vulkan renderer, built on the separate open-source Serious-Engine-Vk project.
