About
Tiberian Dawn is the original name of the first Command & Conquer game. FreeCNC is a GPLv2-licensed engine reimplementation of the original Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn), built with SDL 1.2 and Lua, for Windows and Linux. It requires the original game's data files to run, supporting several releases of Tiberian Dawn (DOS, Gold/Windows 95, the Covert Ops expansion, and the demo) along with partial, not-fully-supported compatibility for Red Alert's data files.
How it differs from the original
FreeCNC adds features not in the original C&C: right-mouse-button map panning, a toggleable new-style sidebar, mouse-wheel scrolling of both sidebar columns, production queueing for units and structures, and support for arbitrary screen resolutions.
Getting started
After compiling with CMake and GCC (or Visual C++), the required data files from an owned copy of Tiberian Dawn (or its demo) must be copied into the game's data folder; a specific map can be launched directly via a command-line option, and a script is provided to automatically download and extract the free demo's files.
Known limitations
- platform: Red Alert is not fully supported; only basic features are functional.

Additional notes
- Trivia
- The map-naming scheme includes 'funpark' missions featuring dinosaurs, which the documentation jokingly notes have 'interesting' movement.
