About
Command & Conquer is Westwood Studios' 1995 real-time strategy game pitting the Global Defense Initiative against the Brotherhood of Nod; its 1996 sequel Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a prequel set in an alternate history where Allied forces battle the Soviet Union. Vanilla Conquer is a portable, open-source reimplementation of the first-generation Command & Conquer engine, capable of running both Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert on Windows, Linux, macOS, and BSD as a drop-in replacement for the original executables. It focuses on keeping the default experience faithful to the original releases while adding bug fixes, compatibility, and quality-of-life improvements, and can also be built as mods for the Remastered Collection.
How it differs from the original
It fixes bugs and compatibility issues present in the original executables while keeping the default gameplay experience faithful, and can additionally run as mods inside the official 2020 Remastered Collection.
Getting started
The built executable acts as a drop-in replacement: copy it into a legacy game directory containing the freeware Tiberian Dawn Gold CD release or the freeware Red Alert CD release/demo, or copy the Remastered-targeted build into the Remastered Collection's Mods folder to run it there instead.
