About

Quake II is a 1997 first-person shooter developed by id Software and published by Activision, the second installment in the Quake series, in which a lone space marine fights the Strogg on their homeworld after a squad's crash-landing. Q2REPRO is a fork of Q2PRO built as a drop-in replacement for the official Kex Quake II re-release engine, aiming for full compatibility with re-release content; it needs no separate installation, automatically picking up an existing Steam or GOG Quake II directory or dropping into an existing game folder like other clients.

How it differs from the original

Compared to plain Q2PRO, it adds re-release-specific features such as weapon wheels and carousel, reverb audio, per-pixel lighting, navigation-file and map-database support, damage and hit markers, and a 40Hz tick rate matching the re-release, while still requiring the original Quake II (or its re-release) assets to play.

Getting started

Works directly against an existing Steam or GOG Quake II installation with no separate install step needed — just run the executable, or drop it into an existing game folder the way other Quake II clients work.

Requires original assets. Drop-in replacement for Quake II re-release engine; playable with Quake II re-release or Steam/GoG installation.

Additional notes

Known limitation
Full compatibility with existing Quake II network protocols, and full netplay support using the native re-release game DLL, are both still incomplete.
