About
Mario Kart 64 is a 1996 Nintendo 64 kart racer developed and published by Nintendo, the second entry in the Mario Kart series, featuring Grand Prix and battle modes with items and obstacles across tracks themed on the Mario franchise. SpaghettiKart is a PC/console port of Mario Kart 64 built on the libultraship framework. It ships with no copyrighted assets and instead generates its game data by processing a legally owned US ROM through an included conversion tool, running on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Nintendo Switch with a choice of DirectX 11, OpenGL, or Metal rendering backends.
How it differs from the original
Custom mods and alternate assets can be packed and loaded from a dedicated mods folder — a modding layer not present in the original 1996 cartridge release.
Getting started
Requires a legally owned US ROM converted to the .z64 format; a provided conversion tool turns that ROM into the game's data file, after which the standalone launcher starts the game. Alternate assets, fullscreen, and control remapping can be adjusted from in-game settings.
Additional notes
- Modding
- An official GameBanana page hosts community-made asset mods; custom .otr archives are explicitly not supported, only .o2r or .zip mod packages.
