About

Descent is a 1995 first-person shooter by Parallax Software in which the player pilots a spaceship with six degrees of freedom through mining tunnels, destroying reactors and infected robots; a sequel, Descent II, followed in 1996. Kathodos is a remake of Descent built in Python using the Panda3D engine. The author describes it as not aiming to be a perfect clone but to stay in the same spirit as the original, and it is currently unplayable.

How it differs from the original

The author explicitly states the project doesn't try to be a perfect one-to-one clone, aiming instead to capture the general spirit of Descent rather than reproduce it exactly.

Getting started

Running it requires Python and Panda3D installed, plus the original Descent data files, which aren't included for copyright reasons and must be obtained separately.

Requires original assets. Requires Descent game datafiles.
