About

Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a 1996 real-time strategy game developed and published by Westwood Studios, set as a prequel to the original Command & Conquer. OpenRedAlert is a game engine rebuild of Red Alert 1, based on the earlier FreeCNC and FreeRA projects. It is written in C++ with SDL, targets Windows and Linux, and is only partially complete; development has halted.

Getting started

You need the two data archives (MAIN.MIX and REDALERT.MIX) from a Red Alert CD, the free Red Alert demo, or the free edition EA released in 2008; build with make and copy the archives into the data folder before running.

History

The project credits FreeCNC, a general engine for Westwood C&C games, and FreeRA, an effort to make FreeCNC compatible with Red Alert, as its foundations.

Requires original assets. Requires MAIN.MIX and REDALERT.MIX files from original Red Alert CD.
